Grettir and the crew return once more to the Southern Seas and join the Kistin, still in Anango. They take a commission to deliver a package to Asperiche and agree to sail in consort with another sloop called the Green Serpent, under the command of one Zamaran of Kasra. At Asperiche Paradoxides leaves the company to spend time with his mentor, Norgamus. He anticipates a furlough of around 18 months. They sail to Telnus, the capital of Kos, for trade. They rendezvous with the Green Serpent once more (which seems unwilling to enter Telnus) and together they scour the seas for adventure.
Girindor, shows off his ability to transform into an albatross, giving almost unlimited maritime range for reconaissance. By this method they locate three ships sailing in convoy which prove to be slavers. They take one as a prize and free its captives. Girindor sinks the other two in a storm he conjures (more collateral damage to the elf as all the slaves they are carrying drown).
They also encounter a seaweed island inhabited by a water troll and are attacked by a sea draugr.
