The party take a riverboat up the West Otanga and then take the northern fork along the eastern foothils of the Edgewere, through a series of lakes. They meet orcs and other denizens of the wilds, but their most notable encounter is with a band of Harpies that attack the boat, singing to the crew in an attempt to ensorcel them. The party drive them off and then pursue them to their den in an ancient broch. They capture one (who is later sold to Guildmaster Tharakor) and slay the rest. Exploring the ruined tower, they find two great treasures from ancient times. The first is a Crown of Power – a spell storing device that allows the wearer instantly to deploy a variety of powerful spells: this went to Hilda. The second is an amulet in the shape of a black swan. Researches reveal that it is a trapped demon that will transport a wizard and companions to any specified astral plane. Grettir held this in trust as a party resource.
