The Mines of Azov

After a short trip to Basi to apprise Paradoxides of the latest elven machinations, Ubaron and Kolgrim teleport the party back to the ruined villa they have been exploring.  They determine to try to find the lost dwarven settlement, the Mines of Azov, from whence the seven dead dwarves found at the villa were deemed to have originated. They surmise that it must be somewhere reasonably nearby.

Over several days, by dint of Girindor’s reconaissance and Ranulf’s prospecting (searching for traces of the mines’ distinctive red gold) they come to a likely area where the elf spots a large cavern in a cliff overlooking a lake.   The magicians fly the warriors up.  It does indeed look like the broken entrance to a great dwarf hold.  There they encounter stone trolls and then giant lizards, both of whom prove to have treasures that look as if they may have been wrested from dwarves.  Pressing on and deeper they cross a bridge over a chasm.  Ranulf is attacked by a giant scorpion – the party make short work of it and the dwarf is unharmed.   Further on into the complex they find themselves fighting troglodytes – evil-smelling lizardmen.  They find no sign, however, of live dwarves (apart from the one they brought with them).  With the assistance of Girindor who can turn rock to mud and back again, Ranulf leaves a message on the wall in dwarven.  By the same method the magicians carve sigils in the rock that they may return to this spot.  Then the party teleports home.
